The APS Division of Soft Matter (DSOFT) compiled written descriptions of over 20 squishy science activities featured in the Squishy Science Sunday 2026 event in Denver, CO. As one of the co-editors and organizers of the inaugural effort, I hope that you are able to replicate some of the great activities that were contributed by various labs and people across the globe!
A semester-long introductory course designed and co-taught with Caroline Barotta on soft matter physics. The curriculum features in-class demonstrations, laboratory assignments, coding exercises, and daily problem sets. The class was originally taught to high-school students for 3 weeks, for 3 hours per day. A survey of topics included fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, Brownian motion, active matter, and biophysics were covered to provide both fundamental ideas and current topics of research.
